چکیده

Stochastic discrimination (SD) has been shown to be a useful pattern recognition tool in the literature. A large number of experiments conducted indicate that SD has a low error rate. This paper presents a statistical look at SD. We show that for two-class problems SD simply transforms the multidimensional feature vectors to points coming from two univariate normal distributions. These two univariate normal distributions are separated further as the number of weak models increases. We also derive some estimates of the error rate of SD on both training and test sets.

Stochastic Fuzzy Discrimination Information Measure Cost Function in Image Processing

A new cost function based on stochastic fuzzy discrimination information measure is introduced in this paper. Focusing on their significant parts, this cost function is used to find the optimal value of threshold for denoising image. It is, in fact, an extension of fuzzy entropy cost function by the present author. Multivariable normal distribution is used for creating focus on significant part...

Propositionalization through Stochastic Discrimination

A simple algorithm based on the theory of stochastic discrimination is developed for the fast extraction of sub-graphs with potential discriminative power from a given set of pre-classified graphs. A preliminary experimental evaluation indicates the potential of the approach. Limitations are discussed as well as directions for future research.

Balancing the books – a statistical theory of prospective budgets in Earth System science

An honest declaration of the error in a mass, momentum or energy balance, ε, simply raises the question of its acceptability: “At what value of ε is the attempted balance to be rejected?” Answering this question requires a reference quantity against which to compare ε. This quantity must be a mathematical function of all the data used in making the balance. To deliver this function, a theory gr...

Modelling relative recency discrimination tasks using a stochastic working memory model.

Relative recency discrimination (RD) task is typically used to assess the temporal organization function of the prefrontal cortex (PFC). Subjects look at a series of cards (with words or drawings on them) and on seeing a test card determine which of the two items was seen more recently. Results show that patients with damage to the prefrontal cortex are severely impaired on this task. We propos...
